Technologies

When a project is assigned to Atomic Orange, we always try hard to present the best possible options for the tools and technologies to be used for its implementation, according to the actual project aim and needs and the available resources, always having in mind the available budget for it.

We are happy to be involved with a number of technologies on which we expertise and we know they are needed for the vast majority of projects, such as web (e.g. HTML, Flash) or mobile technologies (e.g. iOS SDK). This gives us the power of selection and correct assessment of all related aspects of a project before implementation.

Although it is not possible to list every single technology and framework which we use, we provide you with a very small list of frequently asked terms.

Click on any of the terms listed to view a short description about each one. Any further information you might need, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Adobe Flash is a technology used mostly for multimedia-rich websites. Positioned as a platform with which you are able to create “Rich Internet Applications” (RIAs), designers and developers have been widely using it in order to create websites rich in animated elements, as well as desktop and mobile applications, whenever a lightweight and versatile solution is needed.

Atomic Orange is using the latest Adobe Flash Professional and Adobe Flash Builder tools in order to effectively create custom interactive applications, as well as online games.

A programming language used to describe how we want a web page to look, how its elements should be constructed and laid out. Its presence helps the developer to separate the content from the style and layout on screen. When using the latest CSS additions (version 3) we are able to describe also how we want these elements to interact with each other and add effects such as shadows while keeping everything configurable or use more advanced typography.

Atomic Orange is applying CSS throughout its projects’ code, even on Flash-based project which do not generally need such technology to be used. This gives us all the freedom we need in order to be able to extend our clients’ projects in a future time, if there is a need or desire for that.

WordPress is mainly a blog creation tool, which when customised can lead to the creation of a highly configurable and extensible Content Management System (CMS). Its plug-in architecture and its template system help us develop advanced website structures without reinventing the wheel.

Although Atomic Orange has been developing content management systems from scratch with great success, when a need for a quick implementation of a website with a complex taxonomy model arises, we are able to install and deeply configure WordPress in a very effective way.

Short for Search Engine Optimisation. A term widely misused, SEO is the process of making a website “rank better” on web engines by using semantic code and allow the search engine bots to “crawl” your website in the best possible way. If used appropriately, one can achieve great results, having th eability to target specific keywords or phrases.

If various techniques are used in a bad manner (e.g. “cloacking”) a search engine may penalise the website, thus creating the opposite result. We are very sensitive with the use of SEO techniques; for every project we develop a strategy of effective SEO and we stick to that while implementing it.

SEO techniques also change frequently; the most popular engines such as Google and Bing have created blogs in which they post interesting information and new techniques which they make available to the SEO developers.

Apple iOS and Google Android are two operating systems for mobile phones and tablets, which are getting very popular in the world today. On these systems, we are able to implement applications that one is able to download through the official app stores of the platform, thus bringing our clients’ projects to the mobile phone/tablet users.

Both have separate and different procedures for development and publishing of created applications; Atomic Orange is developing for both platforms, as well as implementing for ceratin Blackberry and Windows Phone devices.

Furthermore, a very popular idea today is that every website should have an appropriate alternate design for mobile phones. This is based on the fact that navigation and content presentation needs to be “fit” into very small screens and be used using finger taps and other “gestures” instead of mouse clicks and hovers.
